| | Second Winter | | New Generation Takes Over at Westby Farm | | 1/5/2008 10:20 PM |
George Westby got engaged to Cindy Tailor. This was a great joy for his father Andrew, who later that night passed away. The question is, what would the young widow Ernestine now do? Stay as a helping hand at the farm, when George gets married? or remarry and move on, taking her two sons from the marriage with her? She did like the new smith, Richard.. and he has this nice big house in the village.. George was all for her leaving the house, as he has noticed attraction between her and Matthew - that would be a very bad thing, scandal really. Finally Ernestine moved to Richards house, with her sons, planning to marry him in the spring.
Georges brother Matthew got engaged to the young Winifred Knight, a much better choice for him.
The maid/nanny Susan Chapman had one too many fights with George, and he fired her.
Before spring, both brothers married their fiancées - and as soon as he could Matthew and Winifred moved out, to make a new life for themselves in the town of Windleport. Matthew is a money sim, maybe he will set up a shop of some kind.
In the spring, George and Cindy will have to more hire help to be able to handle the big farm..

| | Third Fall | | Harvest on Westby Farm | | 9/22/2008 11:09 AM |
Westby Farm is one of the biggest in Windlebridge.
To get help for the family with the extensive farm field work, I use Simlogicals school controller. I put 10 or more pupil controllers on the lot, and enroll children and teen, from related families and neighbor farms. With the school controller I call them all to duty in the morning, and use Macrotastics mod from MATY to make them work in the fields. This continues until the very harvest, which I try to manage with the owner family only, to get the produce in the right inventory. If some of the veggies end up in the visiting childrens inventory, they can give it back - or is counted as pay for the work they did. This is much appreciated especially by the poorer families without big farm lands.
In the future the farms will problably evolve to real businesses with employed workers, but for now this solution is good. I also have started to make the different farms specialized in different veggies, for a more efficient management. I use Pescados special planting sign for this, its available in the test directory - its called gpsign, and works great. You mark the area need with the low type of fence, put a sign and then what crop you want. The sims fertilize and plant as a clockwork. I turn them off in the fall so that the soil can rest during the winter.
