The need for an orphanage was great, when the Windleton family decided to make a big donation to make it possible. A new house was built next to the Convent, and children were placed here from all over the Windle area.
The Orphanage has 8 staffers: 5 sisters (2 are Christianlov NPC nannies) and 3 novices, which are teen girls. There are place for 16 children and 18 babies/toddlers, if all beds/cribs are in use. This first season, there are 12 children, 3 toddlers and 3 babies.

(I used Christianlovs Sim Transporter mirror, to spawn the children.
Download it at the Sims2 Graveyard. When you spawn a toddler or older, you have to pick parents BUT they will not inherit genetics - therefor I removed the parents after creation, with Insim, or with SimEnhancer. When you spawn babies with the mirror they DO inherit the genetics from the parents. I used some less known NPC:s and some notorious womanizing sims for this first batch of babies. With time I will move babies born out of wedlock to the orphanage, and children who lose their parents from disease. )
The Orphanage raise the children to be good workers. All children learn gardening, cleaning and cooking. The fate of the children is decided on the grounds of their talents and skills, when they turn teenagers they must leave, with the exceptions of girls who choose to become novices at the convent. This path is mainly open for sims with talent for science or other skills that are useful for the convent. Boys with these talents can be accepted to join the Monastery of the Brethren in Windleport, and if they are exceptionally bright they can even be sent to the seminar in Windle College at the cost of the Monastery.
If this is not an option, the teen boys can get work as servants, in the Mine, at the Manor or even in the Garrison in Windleport. Some boys may choose to become fishermen or sailors. The teen girls can also become servants. Some of course get married. The talents and skills of each child determine their further life.
The children will go to school in the Convent next door.
All children in the Orphanage get the surname Cross, if there are not special circumstances.
Adoption: the nuns will try to find families for the children, and this will happen from time to time. Then I will use the adoption options of Simlogicals teleporter, or edit the family ties otherwise. I would prefer if the old family ties stayed, at least in some cases, this is more realistic and useful for stories. We will see.
Play notes: This is a kind of stress test, how many members can a household have? How many babies and children? I use two Christianlov nannies and Pescados Baby Controller, so far so good. I will add babies all the time, the Orphanage will provide for new servants in the hood, as well as miners and other needed workers, when the family kids are not enough.
This is the first orphanage in this hood - but I have had similar lots in earlier hoods. They were a lot more chaotic though, back in the days when hacks were primitive or non-existing.
