Lots of Children
9/1/2008 12:47 PM
The families in the small cottages on the Manor, and in the miner shacks, all have one thing in common: they have lots of children, and live on small salaries.
Dinner in Callahans Shack
Dinner in Callahan's Shack: Mrs Josephine Stark to the right.

It is a harsh life - the children look for work as soon as they turn teens, the boys then start working in the Mine or as farm workers on the Manor fields.
If there is room they stay with their parents, but if not they move to the Bachelor's Shack for the miners, or the Farm Workers Dorm. The teen girls stay at home, but often work in the better families in Windlebride as maids. Boys marry when they turn adults, girls can marry as teens, preferrably when there are less than 10 days left, when needed I turn them in to Independent Teens with the help of the Insimenator - in waiting for the new version of Inteen.

The farm workers and the miners know each other well and I expect to see several marriages within this group when the second generation gets ready to marry.

(My plan is to make the village self sufficient with maids, all employed with the help of the All-In-One-Painting. I wish for the possibility to hire nannies this way too.)

The Farm Workers' Dorm:

Dorm, first floor
The Farm Workers' Dorm has a simple floorplan, no basement, an attic that is currently empty. Basically a kitchen and a room where everyone sleeps. The beds are from Wood for Sims.

The Outhouse
Bath and toilets are located in the outhouse.

Stark Cottage:
First floor
Stark Cottage is mainly built with Maxis content, I am considering making this cottage available for download as soon as the LotExpander with shrinking is released. It is not a rowhouse, but with the help of shrinking I built it just one tile from the lot border. First floor contains the kitchen and a bedroom. The kitchens are very important in my houses, they function as livingroom also.
Stark second floor
Second floor, (the attic) with room for 2 single beds and cribs. Single beds can be bunkbeds if the family is big.
Stark Basement
An alternative to outhouses - using the basement for bath/toilets.

These houses pretty much show the most common solutions in my smaller houses.

Little Cottages

To handle the Windleton Manor and it's venues, the Manor Orchard, the Manor Fields, and the Rose Garden, it takes a lot of workers. While they are unmarried, they live in the Farm Worker's Dorm.

When they marry, they can get a little cottage to live in. The Lucas family has one, and the old nannies in Williamson's Cottage, and just recently these also got inhabitants:

Stark's Cottage

The Cottages are more comfortable than the miners' shacks, and Sir Patrick makes a pride, as  he put it, to take good care of his workers. Nevertheless, one of his farm workers, Jeremy Jones, died of pneumonia the third spring.

The surface maybe pretty with orchards and flourishing fields.. but the work is hard and the workers start early and work til late, for a meagre pay.
